May I take this opportunity to thank CAD and especially Martin Wayman my Observer for the excellent driver training I received on my course. I have been driving for a long time and this course taught me quite a lot that I thought I already knew, but obviously didn’t !! I now put in to practice what I have gained from this course in my daily driving , and hopefully this has made me a safer driver.

Having recently passed my IAM advanced driving test with training from Cornwall Advanced Drivers and looking back, I can see how much my driving has improved and that driving has become fun once again for me.

After 37 years as a car driver, I thought I was a good driver but when I started my training with Cornwall Advanced Drivers I found I had clearly developed some bad habits which I found difficult to change. I hadn’t realized that IAM and Cornwall Advanced Drivers operate entirely as a charity.
Recently BT from near Bodmin told us:
‘I’ve been driving for many years but I caused a minor accident a few years ago through lack of observation which really shook me. Having just completed Cornwall Advanced Drivers course I’m much more confident and it’s given me renewed driving enjoyment because my observation and planning skills have improved significantly, so I’d recommend the course to any drivers’. Hope your boys-only cooked breakfast is great tomorrow!

I decided to take the IAM test because, at the grand age of 34, I had taken my career as far as I could. I considered a career change, but I loved my job too much to leave. So, to satisfy my need for progression, I decided to better my driving and obtain a shiny new qualification. I have always been proud of my driving- so why not?

Delighted with the achievement of my Advanced Motorist status, and with the words of my observer “you can now say with confidence that you are one of the safest drivers on the road” reinforcing my feel-good factor, I reflected on why I had decided to give myself this challenge and what I had got out of it.

I would definitely recommend anyone, of any age, to take the IAM Advanced Driving Course. My husband completed it a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it so much that he gave me a voucher for the course as a Christmas present. I wasn’t sure of his motives, but as he often falls asleep when I’m driving I don’t think he felt I was a really bad driver who desperately needed to improve.

As a young driver (19), I’m well aware of my age group’s high accident risk and so driving an old sports car (which I’ve restored myself) costs me a fortune to insure. Having just passed my advanced driving test with Cornwall Advanced Drivers help, I’ve nearly halved my insurance renewal premium! Oh – and the training help I had from CAD was terrific.

I had my test last week – passed and got a First! I was absolutely over the moon (and quite surprised to be honest!). I had spent a long time practising the car intro and pre-drive checks, so I think that made a good first impression from the get-go.
I just want to say a big thank you again for all the sessions, it really has made a huge difference to my day-to-day quality of life being able to drive more confidently. I also think ‘just drive the road in front of you’ might be an excellent motto, not just driving but for life in general – I’ll seek to do just that!
I think every car driver could benefit from the exceptionally good training offered by Cornwall Advanced Drivers.

I decided to do the IAM Advanced Driving course with Cornwall Advanced Drivers a year or so after losing my husband. I had always had my own car but a while back we reduced to one between us and although we shared driving on long journeys, my husband liked to do the everyday shorter trips. After his death I felt a bit rusty from not having driven so regularly, but I also lost confidence generally and needed to rebuild my life as a single person.

Undertaking an advanced driving course was something that I never thought I would ever have considered. I thought myself to be a safe driver, had been driving for over 30 years and never had an accident. It was my husband however that thought it would make a good Christmas present.

Many thanks to Cornwall Advanced Drivers and the many of you who have acted as my Observer over the very difficult and protracted stop and start training caused by the Covid pandemic. I thoroughly enjoyed the drive with my IAM Examiner who went out of his way to make it an enjoyable and fair assessment.

I would recommend the IAM Advanced Driving Course to anyone! I was encouraged to take it after I passed my driving test and now at 19 I can say that I’m a safer driver than most people I know! The test has given me such a boost of confidence in my capabilities and reassured me that I can travel around safely.

Taking Cornwall Advanced Drivers advanced driving course then achieving a First pass grade has been a big landmark for me. It’s been fun, challenging and rewarding. The standard of tuition is absolutely top class from well-trained IAM tutors.”

What made you decide to take your IAM Advanced Driving Test? As a stepping stone (to ensure I have the foundation of the system and good safety in place) on the way to becoming a better driver.
What benefits have you gained by having taken the course? Much safer and more confident – and now ready to move on to the next stage of better, smoother, more progressive driving.
Any other comments? The examiner was excellent. He was encouraging, and complimentaary, but also gave some very valuable feedback for me to improve my driving as I progress further.
