Last Saturday, Cornwall Advanced Drivers IAM RoadSmart group, in conjunction with Devon and Cornwall Police accident reduction Officers, were involved in running a pilot event for older drivers living in Cornwall at Perranporth Airfield in Cornwall
The event attracted many older drivers from across Cornwall who received help and advice about safer driving and were able to practice doing many car manoeuvres such as parallel parking, reversing into restricted spaces, slalom and higher speed braking in a safe off-road situation.
This pilot event brought many glowing comments from the older drivers about the tips they had picked up and practical advice about driving safely.
Nick Fletcher, Chief Observer of Cornwall Advanced Drivers, said: Perranporth Airfield was a great location and a resounding success for this off-road event. As the Airfield is used for many different activities an added interest was that we were rubbing shoulders with parachutists, scenic fixed wing and helicopter flights and several under 17 year old car drivers from the airfield driving school!
